The vine and the wine in the heart of Monferrato

A few kilometres from Asti, on the road to Casale Monferrato, the Commune of Portacomaro Stazione introduces you to the sweet Monferrato hills, which are considered by all the vine and wine historians, as the recognized “home” of the ancient “barbesine vines” cultivated in that area even before the 2nd Century and later identified by the experts as the Grignolino vineyard, the most important autochthonous variety of the Piedmontese oenological history. In the centuries that followed the area, due to the nature of the soils and the excellent positions, was found to be also very suitable to the cultivation of the Barbera small vine, presently the most famous in all the viticultural areas in Piedmont which has always produced top-quality wines whose structure and organoleptic features are excellent.

Portacomaro is an area worth visiting because it is close to Asti, the ancient Hasta Pompea, which boasts one of the most interesting historical centres in the region, with majestic churches, buildings, medieval towers and important remains of the Roman Walls. Another big attraction in this area is the high standard of wine tasting, famous for decades all over the world.
